Dance and Creativity within Dance Movement Therapy

This book discusses the core work and basic concepts in dance movement therapy (DMT), focusing on the centrality of dance, the creative process and their aesthetic-psychological implications of the profession for both patients and therapists.

Based on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary inputs from fields such as philosophy, anthropology and dance, contributions examine the issues presented by cultural differences in DMT through the input of practitioners and researchers from diverse countries: France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and USA. Chapters blend theory and case studies with personal intimate reflections to support critical descriptions of DMT interventions and share methods to help structure practice and facilitate communication between professionals and researchers.

This webinar presents four renowned dance movement therapists. Each discussant (Miriam Roskin Berger, Jennifer Frank Tantia, Marianne Eberhard-Kaechele and Susanne Bender) will concentrate on one of the three sections of the book: dance, research and practice.

There will be a question and answer section at the end of discussions.

The novel aspect of this volume lies in that it broadens the scope of the profession while adding to the traditional psychological perspectives, the cultural, phenomenological and more meanings of dance and creativity used within dance movement therapy. It offers systems of thinking related to teaching, doing research and clinical practice.

Learning outcomes for participants:

Participants will be introduced to the book and we hope they will be inspired by the original contributions of the work of authors gathered from different parts of the world.
